Optional Writing Assignment

A Commentary
For this assignment you will choose an artifact of popular culture (a film, a novel, a television show, a video game, a news article, a play or a music album) and write a commentary on it. Your commentary should be analytical in nature. You should either be writing about your opinion supported by examples/evidence in your artifact or about a certain question that your film/book/album answers and how. A good essay will have a central argument or question and use specific examples as evidence or support. If you must give a short summary of what you are critiquing for your argument to make sense, keep this part of your writing to the bare minimum (a short paragraph should suffice). If you choose an English-language artifact, be sure to give the title in English!
Your commentary should be 1-2 pages long (250-500 words approximately), TYPED and DOUBLE-SPACED with the total number of words marked clearly at the end.
You should use a good English-French dictionary in order to use the correct vocabulary in your writing. Correct spelling and grammar and the overall structure of your essay will be considered in determining your grade.
